What does my child need to bring to camp?
A list of recommended items can be found here.
Why can’t I send snack items along with child?
Snack items, along with flavored chap sticks and fruity smelling lotions/toiletries attract animals creating a hazard for everyone.
What kind of clothing should we pack?
Mountain climate can change very rapidly. On average the daytime temps can run in the mid 90’s and the sun is very intense. The nights can get down to the 40’s. Humidity levels are generally on the dry side. Layering clothing is the best practice to follow. Chap stick and lotion are highly recommended for the dryness.
Can my camper bring electronic devices?
While up at camp we prohibit camper use of electronic devices (eg, cell phones, gaming consoles, digital cameras) to limit distractions.
Can I request my camper be in a specific cabin group?
We group campers by age and grade to allow for the best camping dynamics and making new friends. We are unable to accommodate cabin placement requests.
If there is a lodge where meals are served, why does my child need a mess kit?
Each cabin group will participate in at least one ‘overnight’ in which they hike out to a site (weather permitting). There they will help prepare their own meals and sleep on the ground. While the camp staff will pack cooking equipment your child will need eating utensils for the outing.
Are there mosquitoes?
It is a wilderness area and standing water exists everywhere. A repellent is recommended. Parents are responsible for determining if their child is allergic to DEET. Carefully follow the instructions that come with the product and be sure that your child understands how to apply.
What happens if there is a forest fire?
Our staff is trained to respond to emergencies. The fire emergency training is based on information provided by local, state and federal agencies.
